We are happy to process Marriage Licenses in our office during the following times:

Monday through Friday

8:30 a.m. through 3:30 p.m.

Due to the time involved in processing a marriage license we may not be able to process if you arrive after 3:30 p.m. Thank you for your cooperation.

Marriage FAQ

Where do I apply for a license?
Licenses may be applied for at any town or city clerk's office. The process does take approximately 1/2 hour, so please plan accordingly. We will not be able to issue a license same day if you arrive after 3:30pm.

What do I need for identification?
A document that proves your identity and age, such as a driver's license, non-driver's ID, or passport, as well as a certified copy of your birth certificate.

When should I apply for a license?
Your license is good for 90 days from the date of application, so be sure to come in within that time frame before your wedding.

One of us has been married/civil unioned before, what do we need for documentation?
Each party previously married would need to bring a the certified document that ended his/her previous marriage, such as a divorce decree, annulment paper, civil union dissolution or death certificate.

Do we need to apply for the license in the town/city we are having our ceremony performed in?
No. You can use the license in any NH city or town.

Can we use the license in another state or country?
No. If you are getting married in another state or country, you will need to contact that location.

Do both parties need to be present to process the application?
Yes. The application must be completed in person and signed by both applicants.

What is the fee?
Licenses are $50.00. This fee is non-refundable.

How do I get a certified copy of my license?
Certificates are available for $15.00 for the first copy and $10.00 for each subsequent copy following the filing of the license by the officiant performing the ceremony.  You can go to any town or city clerk's office to obtain a copy of your marriage certificate within 10 days of being married.
