Awards Presented for CPR Life Saving Effort

On May 21, 2008, the Laconia Fire Department responded to Parade Road for a motor vehicle accident, with reported CPR in-progress. On arrival, responding units found the vehicle, operated by Leigh Ulm, 63, of Center Harbor had left the road, crossed a field and came to rest in a wooded area.
Attending to Mr. Ulm were Christina Simula or Meredith and Juanita Wade of Plymouth, both of whom were performing CPR. Due to the quick actions of both individuals, the responding EMS personnel had a viable patient. Laconia Fire Department Paramedics administered ALS intervention, defibrillated the patient and restored a normal heartbeat.
An awards ceremony was held at the Laconia Fire Station to honor several individuals for their prompt action in saving a life. Laconia Fire Chief Kenneth Erickson presented both Simula and Wade with Hero Awards on behalf of the fire department. Chuck Engborg presented awards on behalf of the American Heart Association and State Senator Kathy Sgmabati (D-Tilton) presented recognition certificates on behalf of Governor John Lynch.
Christina Simula is employed as an X-Ray technician at Spear Memorial Hospital in Plymouth and Juanita Wade is employed by the Golden View nursing home in Meredith.
Also honored were members of the Laconia Fire Department who responded that day. Lt./Paramedic David French, Lt. Timothy Woods, Senior Fire Fighters Scott Hopkins and Mark Beauchemin, Fire Fighter/Paramedic Deborah Black and Fire Fighters Steven Hanser and Kyle Joseph.
